"Strange Places, Familiar Faces"
RP between DrunkPelican's Enzo and MediocrePotato's Calida
+1 Bone for both

Long cream fur bounced with every step Calida took as she made her way back to the densite. She had just returned from making sure that the elk herds were in their proper places and not wandering too far from where Fellfang wanted them. Her muscles were rippling under her coat which was thickening to prepare for the approaching colder weather and vapor blew from her nostrils and mouth as her warm breath met the brisk morning air.

Just as she was about to enter Starheim, her pink nose got a hold of a scent that was both new and familiar. This smell has never been present in Fellfang, but she had come into contact with it before. Calida was so fixated on finding the source of the smell, that it did not even run through her mind to try and remember who it belonged to. If she had taken a moment to analyze it, she would have realized who it belonged to, for Calida was not one to forget scents.

Calida snapped out of her trance once a dark figure entered her peripheral vision. She looked up and her jaw slightly dropped as she recognized the black and grey coat of her old friend. She slowly walked closer to him, disbelief plastered onto her face. It was as if her mind was doubting what her eyes were seeing, was it really him? Once she saw the side of his face, all her doubts disappeared, it was him!

“Enzo?” she huffed with a small smile as her green eyes began to shine with joy.

:icondrunkpelican:

It had been a few days since Enzo had settled in Fellfang. He was still getting used to the dynamics of this pack- they were very different from Vale. He enjoyed it however, and found it to be a surprisingly comforting change from being stranded on his own in the wild for however long he was. This day, Embla was going to be out. It would be the first time he was on his own in this land he was still trying to work out. He wasn’t all that worried, he could hold his own. The only thing that worried him was the possibility of something happening that’d jeopardize
 his relationship with Embla.

Pushing worries aside, Enzo trotted out into the chilly day, sun warming his back and air clinging freshly to his lungs. He took a glance around, taking in the details of those he could see. Many gave him weird looks; some obviously didn’t trust him, others perhaps looked at him with sheer curiosity. He wondered if there could possibly be anyone he knew here, maybe someone from Vale or-

‘Enzo?’ a voice called out his name. Someone other than Embla. His ears instantly swiveled in the direction that the voice came. He turned his head, eyes meeting with a she-wolf. His own eyes widened slightly, it was Calida, someone he never thought he’d see again. Someone he poured his love into when he was young, and at one point, believed he would be with for always. He slowly stepped in her direction, expression slightly confused. How had this even come about?

“C-Calida. This is… hey.” He said, chuckling slightly toward the end of his sentence. He didn’t really know what else to say.

:iconmediocrepotato:

At first his confused expression worried her, did he not remember her, did she really look that different? But the words spoken by his deep raspy voice melted away her worries and her smile grew even wider. She stepped forward and rested her head on the back of his neck, nuzzling the thick fur above his shoulders.
“I am glad to see that you are doing well,” she tittered before drawing back and looking into his familiar golden eyes, just as focused and glowing as always. They had not changed a bit, but there were other things that had since the last time they saw each other as young adults. The most obvious was his size, he had grown larger in mass and height, and seemed more developed and mature. Her eyes then caught the new large scar on the right side of his face and on his chest and then noticed the white ticking that had emerged in various spots on his face and body, and how his cheekbones seemed to protrude a bit more. Though in the end, to her, it was still the same wolf who had helped her through a lonely and difficult time of her life. The same wolf who had shown her kindness and love when she needed it most, and for that, she would be forever grateful.

“I still cannot believe that it is actually you! What are you doing in Fellfang?” she asked with a tilt of her head, a habit that she had not grown out of since she was a pup.

:icondrunkpelican:

He saw her examine him, and realized he probably looked like a completely different wolf. He was surprised she had even recognised him from how and where he was standing, from just a glimpse of him. Perhaps it was his mannerisms, they hadn’t changed much. He himself didn’t see much of a change physically, but it was apparent that he had developed into someone else. Perhaps if he’d even shown himself again to Vale they wouldn’t have recognized him. Unlikely, though, his scent remained the same too.
‘You need to stop thinking about Vale. There is nothing there for you. It’s not your home anymore, Fellfang is.’ He thought brusquely, focusing then on Calida as she asked why he was there.

“It's a long story… I’ll just say I came from Vale. Things didn’t go happily ever after over there.” He said, not really wanting to delve into the grizzly details of how he attacked Alar, betrayed his brother, lost his other sibling, his niece, and everything else that took an unfortunate turn in that forsaken land. His expression did not change, but it wasn’t because he was unaffected by what happened. After all this, thankfully, he was still an expert at masking his true emotions. It had to be one of his strongest talents, and he was extremely thankful for it.

“I’m also here with- for Embla.” He added, having not really told anyone out loud before. It was weird to say, but again, his expression didn’t show it. “I had no idea you lived here, guess more familiar faces is good. It’s never easy just… blending in with a new crowd.” He said, looking around briefly.

:iconmediocrepotato:

Calida slowly nodded her head at his mentioning of Vale, she had heard that the now neighboring pack was going through a very difficult time. But she was glad that Enzo had decided to leave Vale’s toxic environment and join Fellfang, for the pack had a healing element to it. Though there was something else that widened the smile on her cream muzzle, Enzo was here for another packmate. She was pleased to see that someone else in the pack knew him and that he had someone else to trust.

“I know, it feels a bit odd in the beginning, with all of the new faces and the new territory. But Fellfang is an exceptional pack, everyone here is family and we all care for one another as if we shared blood.” Calida thought back to when she first joined Fellfang, it felt like a lifetime ago. So much has happened since then and she has changed so much. The pack allowed her to break free from her shell and blossom into who she is today. “When I first joined the pack I felt an unbelievably sensation of relief, and within days I knew that i had found my new home. They welcome everyone with open hearts, but in the end the decision of whether to accept their love or not depends on you.” Her eyes were soft and her tone gentle, “I think you will like it here.” Her smile gleamed sincerity that latched onto her words.

:icondrunkpelican:

The dark wolf knew what she was talking about. He’d felt that way at Vale. Vale had been the pack he’d just… melted into, become apart of, he was a foundation, a beam which Vale could rest upon. He honestly didn’t see how Fellfang could replace such a monumental hole in him, but he had to be open to the opportunity. He had no choice, he would not leave Embla. Her words did reassure him, she seemed so confident in her claims, he only hoped he could one day feel the same.

He momentarily thought about the time they had been together, both as loners, wandering in the wilderness with no real plan.

“There’s no doubt I’ll at least try to fit in. Not sure how that will go. Well, you’d know, I’ve always been more of a loner sort. Doing what I like, when I like. I have more to me to think about now though. I’ll just have to change my mentality.” He admitted, voice gruff. It was so odd to think that with Calida, his experience as a loner then had been wonderful, easy. But, thinking back on his most recent experience as a loner, and it was the stark opposite; lonely, cold, dark. How could things change to drastically? It was a concept almost too difficult for him to be able to understand.

“So far, there’s been a lot to remember, this pack seems to have a rich culture and belief system. I am a simple man, things like this generally go beyond me.” He added, chuckling the slightest bit.

:iconmediocrepotato:

Calida closed her eyes and smiled as she slowly nodded her head. Fellfang did have a strong cultural influence and its wolves were quite aware of its beliefs and rituals, and this was a foreign aspect to Calida when she joined.
“I know what you mean, I am the same. My birth pack was very simple, it had no rituals or deities to remember, plus I became a loner at a very young age. So when i joined Fellfang, it was quite a new experience for me.” She furrowed her brows and chuckled a bit, “Honestly, I still struggle to recall some things about the culture and beliefs.” She hated to admit it, but it was true. She loved Fellfang with all her heart and would forever be loyal, but trying to learn and remember every aspect of its ways was difficult. Though she did try, and would continue to do so.

“But I would not lose sleep over it if i were you. As long as you do good and help the pack thrive, you will fit right in,” she barked with a wink.

:icondrunkpelican:

The fact that Calida still had trouble remembering the packs special customs sort of intimidated him. There was so much he was to remember, and he wanted to remember, so he could be good to this pack. So he could be useful. But, he didn’t know how much confidence he had in himself or his ability to absorb and fully believe in everything Fellfang stood for. He had never believed in spirits or a higher being, and he didn’t see himself believing so any time soon. He didn’t want to compromise Embla’s faith however, so he would keep his mouth shut on the subject and simply keep his opinion in a grey area. After all, it didn’t bother him- in fact it almost amazed him- how devoted and spiritual these wolves were.

He smiled to Calida, nodding.

“Thank you for the advice. I do believe I needed it. I want to do good, no matter how hard I may find it at first. I’m determined enough.” He stated, looking to the ground for a moment. His head swivelled over his shoulder and in the distance he saw Embla, standing, waiting for him. He smiled to her before returning his attention to his old friend.

“I… I best be off. Going to go and check out ‘the hunt’. I don’t know what that is but it sounds promising,” He turned, but before he left he gave Calida a charming smile, “if you ever need anything, let me know. I’ll see you around.” He added, thankful there was another wolf here he knew.

:iconmediocrepotato:

Calida’s ears perked in amusement when Enzo mentioned his interest in The Hunt. She remembered the many hunting missions that they went on, and was relieved that Fellfang might be obtaining another skilled hunter. Though she decided to leave out that she was actually one of Fellfang’s Bandr hunters, for it would be interesting to see his reaction when he figured out on his own.

She returned a warm smile to the male’s offer. “Thank you, Enzo. I appreciate it.” She then stood to her feet and with a high wagging tail she barked, “See you.”

The she-wolf walked off back to the dens, her heart flowing with joy that she now had an old friend to accompany her in Fellfang.

Summary: Enzo and Calida are reunited in Fellfang after years, and they catch up. Calida gives Enzo some much needed advice and encouragement on the subject of how Enzo is going to fit into Fellfang's culture and way of life.

+1 Bone for both.
